This easy chicken soup with pasta is loaded with veggies for extra goodness. It’s perfect for cold days, served with a slice of bread to soak up the broth and warm little tummies. Enjoy!

Soup is a great way to serve your little ones more veggies and protein. It might be a bit messy when they are young, but as they get older and master holding the spoon, it will get better and better.
In this chicken soup recipe, I keep things simple by adding all the ingredients to a pot of water, then blending the vegetables in a food processor and stirring them back into the soup. It’s perfect for picky eaters and adds great flavor without the need for store-bought broth.

👩🏻🍳 Why you should try my recipe
- Minimum prep time. Just add the ingredients to a big pot and leave it to cook.
- No use of store-bought broth, just whole food ingredients.
- Suitable for kids of all ages.
- Creamy without using any dairy.
- You can use some fun shaped pasta to make it more playful for little ones.
🥘 Ingredients
To make this kid-friendly chicken pasta soup, we are going to use bone-in chicken, potatoes, carrot, onion, celery, water, lemon, egg and ground black pepper.
- Chicken: I'm using 4 chicken thighs, but you could use any chicken pieces you have at home. Bone-in chicken makes a tastier broth compared to chicken breast.
- Egg: I'm using one egg at the very end to thicken the soup and make it more creamy. If there is an egg allergy, you could leave it out.
- Pasta: You can use any short pasta you like or have on hand at home. I prefer ditalini, stelline, or orzo for soups. They cook quickly and are easy for little ones to eat with a spoon.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!
01. To start, I place a big pot filled with water over medium heat. I add the veggies and chicken to the pot. I like to cut the carrots, onion and potatoes in half and the celery sticks to smaller bits so they cook faster.
02. I leave everything to boil and cook for about an hour. When the chicken is cooked, I take it out of the pot and leave it aside to cool down while I finish with the soup.

03. Next, I take the veggies out and add them to a food processor. If you don't like them puréed, you could also dice them once they've cooled down a little bit and add them back to the pot with the chicken later.
04. After removing the vegetables, I add the short pasta to the pot. I use only half a cup, just enough to add some carbs and make the soup more tasty and fun for the kids.

06. When the pasta is nearly ready, I add the egg white to a bowl and stir it with a whisk until it breaks down and gets a little bit foamy.

07. Then I add the egg yolk and lemon juice and whisk everything together. I take a ladle of the soup and slowly add it to the bowl with the egg mixture while whisking continuously. I repeat this 2-3 more times, adding one ladle at a time.
08. This is to slowly rise the temperature of the eggs before adding them to the hot soup. I turn off the heat and I slowly add the egg mixture back to the pot while I keep stirring. You will notice that the soup changes color and become more yellow and creamy.

09. By now, the chicken should have cooled down a bit and be easier to handle. I remove the bones and chop it into smaller bits with a knife.
10. I add the chicken pieces back to the pot with the soup and add a little bit of ground black pepper to taste.

💭 Tips
- Whisk the egg white on its own to break it down well before adding the yolk and the lemon juice.
- Season with salt and black pepper for older kids and adults.
- For a clearer broth, you could strain the broth through a fine sieve before adding the pasta and the puréed vegetables.
🍽 Serving Suggestions
Babies under 12 months: For young babies that are still learning to eat solids, you could offer the soup in a small cup or a bowl that sticks on the table. You could give them a spoon to practice and give them the chicken pieces on the side, or let them pick them up with their hands.
Toddlers & Older kids: For older kids, serve the soup in a bowl with a slice of crusty bread to soak up the juices. You could also dice the veggies instead of blending them.
If you are making the chicken pasta soup for older kids and adults, you could add some salt to the pot at the same time you add the pasta. Otherwise, you could keep some aside for the baby, and season the remaining soup for the rest of the family.
🧰 Storage
If you have any leftover of the chicken pasta soup, you should store it in the fridge and consume within 2–3 days. You could warm it up on the stove or the microwave before serving it.
❓ FAQ
On top of the potato, carrot and onion, I like to add some zucchini or leeks or squash.
