👩🏻🍳 Why you should try my recipe
- Suitable for babies, toddlers and kids of all ages.
- Ready in under an hour.
- Perfect on its own or with some wedges, mash or a slice of bread on the side.
- Freezable for meal prepping.
🥘 Ingredients
To make this baby-friendly chicken recipe, we are going to use boneless chicken, sweet peas, carrots, onion, garlic, lemon, fresh dill, black pepper.
- Chicken: You could use any part of the chicken you like. I have tried it with both chicken breast and chicken thighs and it tastes great with both.
- Peas: I'm using frozen peas because it's easier and I always have some in the freezer. You might have to adjust the cooking time when using fresh peas.
- Fresh dill: It really complements the flavors, but if you don't have any or don't like the taste, you can leave it out or replace it with parsley or another fresh herb of your choice.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!
01. I start with chopping the onion and garlic. I roughly chop the fresh dill and cut the carrots into finger sized pieces or slices for older kids. I cut the chicken into smaller chunks so it cooks faster, since the peas and carrots don’t need much time to soften.
02. Moving to the pot, I turn the heat to medium-high. Once it's hot enough, I add the olive oil and cook the chopped onion for 1–2 minutes, until it’s soft. This brings out the onion’s sweetness and adds more flavor to the dish.

03. I add the chicken and cook it for 3–4 minutes until it's brown on all sides.
04. Next, I add the peas, chopped garlic, and carrots to the pot. I turn the heat down to medium-low and add about a cup of water. Then I season with freshly ground black pepper and salt (skip the salt for babies under 12 months).

05. After 10 minutes, I add the lemon juice and chopped fresh dill. I mix everything well and continue cooking until the chicken is fully cooked and the vegetables are fork-tender, for about 20 minutes.
06. A good way to check if the vegetables are soft enough for a baby is to press them between your index finger and thumb. If they feel hard, they need a few more minutes.

🍽 Serving suggestions
Babies 6m-12m: For babies under 12 months who are still learning how to eat, make sure the peas are well cooked. You don’t want them to turn into mash, but they should be soft enough to press easily between two fingers. You can also gently press the peas with a fork to break their round shape, as it can be a choking hazard.
I also recommend cutting the carrots into sticks rather than slices for younger kids, as they’re easier to hold this way.
Toddlers & Older kids: For all other ages, you could offer the chicken with peas and carrots and some bread on the side to soak up the juices or some rice.
🧰 Storage
I recommend storing any leftover chicken with peas and carrots in the fridge and consume it within 2–3 days. You could warm it up on the stove or the microwave before serving it.

❓ FAQ
Yes, you could definitely use chicken drumsticks or chicken thighs. I recommend cooking the bone-in for 15 minutes on its own before adding the peas and carrots, as it takes longer than diced chicken to cook.
On top of sweet peas and carrots, you could add potatoes cut into chunks, sliced mushroom or zucchini cut into sticks or chunks.
