An easy, kid-friendly guacamole recipe for babies and children of all ages. Great dip for healthy fries and veggie sticks, as a snack, side dish or even for parties and playdates.
Dips are a fantastic way to help little ones eat more veggies and get some extra protein. I especially love dips with a yogurt or avocado base—they’re refreshing and usually a hit with kids.
Since my kids aren’t big fans of spicy flavors, I wanted to create a guacamole dip that's more kid-friendly, with a milder taste but still delicious and rich. Avocado is a superfood, making it a great addition to your child’s diet. If you skip the salt, it’s also suitable for babies as young as 6 months.

🥘 Ingredients
To make this easy kid-friendly guacamole dip we are going to use avocados, onion, cherry tomatoes, lime, cilantro, olive oil and salt. For babies under 12 months, you should leave the salt out.
Many people and children are not big fans of cilantro. If this is the case for you, then you could replace it with some fresh parsley for a milder, refreshing flavor.
I'm not using anything spicy for this guacamole dip to make it more kid-friendly. However, if your kid is used to having spicy flavors, you could add some red pepper flakes or chopped chili or smoked paprika for an extra kick.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!
01. I like to add around 10 cherry tomatoes to my kid-friendly guacamole. I chop the tomatoes to be easier to blend and for little ones that are still learning how to chew. Instead of cherry tomatoes, you could use a big tomato that you also dice.
02. I cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh into a bowl. I’m using ripe avocados that are easy to mash but still have a vibrant green color. If you notice any dark brown spots, just cut them off with a knife before adding the flesh to the bowl. Then, using a fork or masher, I press the avocados into a thick paste.
03. I'm using one small onion that I dice. If the raw onion has a strong taste then you could put it in a bowl filled with cold water for 5–10 minutes.
04. I add the cherry tomatoes, chopped cilantro, chopped onion, olive oil and the juice of one lime (about one and a half tablespoons) to the bowl with the mashed avocado. Then, I season with just salt to keep the flavors mild for little ones. If you're sharing the guacamole with a baby under 12 months, leave out the salt and add it to your plate instead.
📖 Substitutions & Variations
- Instead of cherry tomatoes, you could use a tomato that you dice.
- Instead of lime juice, you could use 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
- You could substitute cilantro with fresh parsley.
- For babies under 12 months, do NOT add any salt to the guacamole.
🍽 Serving suggestions
Babies under 12 months: For babies following the BLW method, you can offer guacamole as a dip alongside their main meal or as a snack with veggie sticks or healthy fries. Ensure the veggie sticks are cooked, as raw ones can pose a choking risk. You could serve it with some roasted carrots, baked potato wedges, some zucchini fries or sweet potato fries. They can also enjoy it by eating with their fingers or using a spoon.
Toddlers & older kids: For toddlers and older kids who are comfortable with different textures and have mastered chewing, you can serve guacamole with tortilla chips, fries, veggie chips, pita bread, raw carrots, cucumbers, and more.
You can also use guacamole in wraps and sandwiches, pairing it with protein and salad.
🧰 Storage
If you have any leftovers of this kid-friendly guacamole dip, you should put it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3–4 days.
