These kid-friendly gingerbread waffles are perfect for Christmas and the festive period. Very aromatic, easy to make and without any refined sugar. Enjoy!

Full of cozy fall spices, these gingerbread waffles will make your kitchen smell absolutely amazing. I’m using grape molasses to add natural sweetness, but you can use any type of molasses your family enjoys. It adds a beautiful color, deep flavor, and that classic gingerbread taste we all love.

👩🏻‍🍳 Why you should try my recipe

  • Without any refined sugar added.
  • Warm spices and deep flavored.
  • Suitable for kids of all ages.
  • Easy to prepare the batter.
  • Freezable for busy mornings and days out.

🥘 Ingredients

To make these kid-friendly gingerbread waffles, we are going to use all-purpose flour, baking powder, butter, grape molasses, vanilla extract, egg, milk, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, allspice and ginger.

  • Spices: I use a mix of fall spices to give the waffles that distinct gingerbread flavor. You could also use a teaspoon of pumpkin spice mix if you don't have all the individual spices.
  • Molasses: I'm using grape molasses, but you could also use any other type of molasses or treacle you have at home, or you can find at the store.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions

So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!

01. To start, I add the egg, milk and vanilla extract to a bowl and mix everything well with a whisk.

02. Then, I add the flour, baking powder and spices. I mix just until the dry ingredients are combined.

Step1: Mixing the wet ingredients. Step2: Adding the dry ingredients.

03. Finally, I add the molasses and melted butter and give everything a good stir to combine. Once the batter is ready, it’s time to move on to the waffle maker.

04. I’m using a Dash single waffle maker, which allows me to swap out the plates for different patterns. I add about a quarter cup of batter to the hot waffle plate and cook it for around 4 minutes, until the waffles turn a beautiful golden brown. If you’re using a different waffle maker, simply adjust the amount of batter and cooking time according to your appliance’s instructions.

Step3: Adding the molasses. Step4: Batter on the waffle maker.

🍽 Serving Suggestions

For babies under 12 months, you can serve these kid-friendly gingerbread waffles with some apple or pear slices or some sugar-free applesauce on top.

For older kids and adults, you could drizzle some maple syrup or honey and add some fruits on top for extra flavor and goodness.

🧰 Storage

If you have any leftover waffles, you could store them in the fridge and warm them up in a pan when ready to eat.

They are also freezer-friendly for up to 2 months. Place squares of parchment paper between them, then store them in a zip-top freezer bag in the freezer.

❓ FAQ

What can I add to the waffles instead of molasses?

You could substitute molasses with maple syrup.
