🥘 Ingredients
To make these healthy French toast roll-ups, we will need some bread slices, eggs, milk and butter for the pan. For the 3 different fillings, I'm using raspberries and cream cheese, banana and peanut butter, and applesauce.
I like to use sourdough bread slices as they don't have any added sugar in them, but you could use any white or brown bread you prefer and have available at home.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!
01. To start, I'm removing the crust from the bread slices. This is so it's easier to roll and also to flatten the bread for spreading the filling.
02. Using a rolling pin, I roll each bread slice flat. If you don't have a rolling pin, you can use a tall round glass and gently press it to flatten the bread.
03. For the first filling, I'm using cream cheese and raspberries. I spread the cream cheese on two of the bread slices, leaving about an inch from each side. Then I place 1-2 raspberries cut in the middle or quarters at the end of each bread slice in a strip. I press gently and roll it up tightly.
04. For the second filling, I'm mashing half a banana and mixing it with a tablespoon of peanut butter or any nut butter you like. I often use almond butter, as I prefer it to peanut butter. Then I spread it on two of the bread slices and roll them up tightly.
05. For the third filling, I'm using my homemade sugar-free applesauce. I spread it on the remaining two slices and roll them up. You could also use store-bought applesauce or a grated apple.
06. Before moving to the pan, I crack the eggs and add them to a bowl along with the milk. I mix them well with a whisk or fork until well combined. Make sure the bowl is wide enough to dip the bread roll-ups easily. If your little one finds the egg smell too strong, you could add a pinch of cinnamon to the bowl.

08. I add half a tablespoon of butter to a pan and turn the heat on medium. I place 3-4 of the roll-ups at a time, depending on the pan size. Using a fork or a tong, I turn them around to cook on all sides.

🍽 Serving suggestions
We love having these French toast roll-ups for breakfast or as a snack. You can also pack them for days out when you want a healthy snack with you or pack them in your little one's lunchbox.
Babies (6-12 months): For babies under 12 months, serve them as a stick or cut them into circles. You could serve them with some yogurt on the side and some seasonal fruits.
All other ages: For all other ages, you could serve them as they are or drizzle some honey or maple syrup on top.
🧰 Storage
French toast roll-ups are best eaten warm and fresh. However, if you do have lots of bread that might go bad in a few days, you could make a big batch and freeze them. They could last in the freezer for up to 2 months.
When you are ready to have them, take them out of the freezer and warm them up in the microwave for a couple of minutes or in a pan until piping hot.
💭 Tips
- Remove the crust from the bread slices so it's easier to roll flat. No need to throw it away. You could use it as a dipper for hummus or any other dips.
- Use ripe bananas for more flavor and to be easier to mash.
