👩🏻‍🍳 Why you should try my recipe

  • Easy to make with just a few simple ingredients.
  • Suitable for babies from 6 months old if you leave out the honey.
  • Last up to 3 months in the freezer.
  • Healthy dessert with no sugar added.

🥘 Ingredients

To make these sugar-free watermelon popsicles we only need 4 ingredients, watermelon, kiwi, honey (skip for babies under 12 months) and lime juice.

I'm using a little bit of honey with the watermelon but that is optional. You could leave it out or substitute it with a teaspoon of maple syrup.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions

So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!

01. I cut the watermelon roughly into cubes so it can fit in the blender or food processor. I add a teaspoon of honey and lime juice and blend until it's smooth.

02. I'm using standing popsicle molds. I fill them with the watermelon juice, leaving about a finger space at the top for the kiwi. We want the watermelon to get firm, but not completely solid. I place them in the freezer just for a couple of hours and then move on to the next step.

Step1: Adding lime juice to the blender along with the watermelon cubes. Step2: Watermelon juice added to the molds, leaving a finger space at the top.

03. I chop the kiwis and add them to the blender until I get a smooth paste.

04. I take the molds out of the freezer and add the kiwi on top of the watermelon on each mold. Then I add the stick by pressing a little bit. The watermelon should be just firm enough to hold the kiwi juice at the top while still allowing the stick to pierce through easily.

Step3: Blended kiwi. Step4: Adding the kiwi on top of the watermelon in the molds.

📖 Substitutions & Variations

  • Instead of honey, you could use maple syrup or leave it out.
  • Use a ripe watermelon for best results.

🍽 Serving suggestions

Babies under 12 months: If you are making the watermelon popsicles for a baby under 12 months, then do NOT add any honey in them. It might be difficult for little ones to hold the big popsicles. You could use smaller popsicle molds for their little hands.

Toddlers & older kids: For toddlers and older kids, you just offer the watermelon popsicles as a refreshing treat. To take out of the mold, you just need to run it under running water or fill in a glass with warm water and dip the mold in for a few seconds.
