Ready in less than 30 minutes, these sweetcorn fritters are baby-friendly and have a soft texture and sweet flavor from the corn and the peas. Offer them as a snack or for lunch with a dip like Greek yogurt or some extra veggies on the side.
Fritters and patties are a great way to introduce more vegetables to your baby's diet and for picky toddlers to eat more veggies. These sweetcorn fritters have a slightly sweet flavor from the corn and the peas, and both my toddler and preschooler love them.
They are best enjoyed warm, right after you make them, but if we have any leftovers we have them warmed up on the next day for breakfast or as a snack. Add a spoonful of Greek yogurt on the side for some extra goodness and to balance the flavors, or you could serve them with some homemade ketchup and some steamed veggies on the side.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!
01. I chop the onion and add it to a pot with a tablespoon of olive oil. I sauté the onion for 3-4 minutes until it's soft and translucent. Cooking the onion before adding it to the batter helps to get all its sweetness out and gives us more tasty fritters.
02. I fill another pot with water and bring it to a boil. I place the frozen peas and sweetcorn in and cook them for 10–12 minutes until they are fork-tender but not mushy.
03. I add the cooked onion, sweetcorn and peas to a bowl and wait a couple of minutes to cool down. Then I add the rest of the ingredients, flour, baking powder, egg, milk, ground pepper and garlic powder.
04. I mix everything well with a spatula until I have a thick batter. Try not to overmix it, just enough to combine the ingredients and incorporate the flour.
05. In a frying pan, I add some olive oil, or you could use your preferred type of oil for frying. We are not deep-frying the fritters, so you don't have to add a lot. I usually put about a quarter cup of oil for all the batter. I heat the pan over medium-high heat and when it gets hot enough, I place a heaped spoon of the batter in. Then 3-4 more spoons, leaving about a finger space between them.
06. I leave the sweetcorn fritters to cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until they get a nice golden color. I put a couple of paper towels on a plate and then place the fritters on top, to absorb any excess oil.
📖 Substitutions & Variations
- You could use a teaspoon of oregano or mixed dry herbs or Italian seasoning for some extra flavor.
- You could use fresh or frozen sweetcorn and peas.
- For toddlers and older kids, you could add some salt to the batter.

Buy On Amazon🍽 Serving suggestions
We usually have these sweetcorn fritters for lunch with a yogurt dip on the side and some veggies or chicken strips. You could also serve them to your little one as a snack, as they are easy to hold.
For babies under 12 months, avoid adding any salt to the batter to keep their daily sodium intake minimal. I prefer to split the fritters in half, making them easier for little hands to hold and the middle bit is also softer for them to chew.
Make sure the sweetcorn fritters have fully cooled before serving to prevent burning their delicate little hands.
🧰 Storage
If you have any leftovers of these sweetcorn fritters, then store them in the fridge for the next day. The crust will get a bit softer when you reheat them but they will still taste great.
I also like to freeze them, as it gets very handy for busy days when you don't have much time, or you have your hands full with other stuff. I put them in freezer bags and then thaw them overnight.
❓ FAQ
Yes they are suitable from 6 months old as they don't have any salt in them. You could make the fritters smaller so they are easier to hold with their little hands or cut them in half and serve them.
