Delicious heart-shaped waffles with chocolate and sprinkles for the whole family to enjoy as a snack or dessert on Valentine's Day or any other occasion. Enjoy!

Heart waffles on the table with sprinkles and chocolate chips between them.

These little heart-shaped waffles were originally a special Valentine’s Day treat, but my kids love them so much that we now make them for any ‘special day.’ They’re much healthier plain, but for special occasions, we enjoy dipping them in chocolate and adding sprinkles.

👩🏻‍🍳 Why you should try my recipe

  • Easy to prepare.
  • Great for Valentine's Day and special occasions.
  • Can last in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Easy to pack.

🥘 Ingredients

To make these heart waffles, we are going to need some all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, egg, vanilla extract, milk, butter and coconut sugar.

Ingredients for heart shaped waffles.

For full quantities and to print the recipe, see the recipe card below.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions

So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!

01. In a bowl, I add the milk, egg, coconut sugar, vanilla extract and butter. I mix all the wet ingredients well with a whisk.

02. Next, I add the dry ingredients—flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Using a whisk, I mix until everything is well combined.

Step1: Mixed wet ingredients. Step2: Adding dry ingredients to the bowl.

03. I pour a couple of tablespoons of batter into my preheated waffle maker. I use a single waffle maker, but you can adjust the amount based on yours.

04. Once the waffle is done, I remove it and set it aside to cool down.

Step3: Adding batter to the waffle maker. Step4: Waffle ready still in the waffle maker.

05. If the waffle loses its heart shape as it puffs up in the waffle maker, you can trim it with scissors to reshape it.

06. To decorate, I drizzle some melted chocolate over one-half of the waffle. Then, I add some sprinkles and let it sit until the chocolate sets.

Step5: Trimming the waffle to shape the heart. Step6: Covering half of the waffle with melted chocolate.

📖 Substitutions & Variations

  • Instead of coconut sugar, you could add a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.
  • Instead of butter, you could use coconut oil or vegetable oil of your choice.

🍽 Serving suggestions

I decorate half of the heart waffles with chocolate and sprinkles for a sweet treat, while leaving the rest plain for breakfast or snacking. We enjoy them with berries and yogurt or a drizzle of maple syrup.

🧰 Storage

Store any leftover waffles in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If your little ones prefer them warm, you can reheat the plain waffles in a toaster.

❓ FAQ

What can I use instead of coconut sugar for the waffles?

You could replace coconut sugar with honey or pure maple syrup in the same quantities.
