- Make sure the avocados are ripe otherwise, it will be difficult to mash.
- You could use one small tomato or 3-4 cherry tomatoes.
- Instead of lime juice, you could also use lemon juice.

🔪 Step-by-step Instructions
So get your ingredients ready and let's get started!
01. To start, I cut the avocado in half, remove the stone and skin, and add the flesh to a bowl. You could either use a fork or a masher. I find it easier to use a fork to mash the avocados.
02. Then I split the mashed avocado between three bowls to make the 3 different variations. I dice the tomato and add it to the first bowl.
03. For the second one, I add some freshly ground black pepper and squeeze half a lime juice. Avocado and lime juice is one of my favorite combinations, and well guessed, guacamole is one of my favorite little snacks.
04. For the third bowl, I'm adding one boiled egg and mash it with a fork. Then I mix well with the mashed avocado.
Of course, you could add more ingredients and spices if you like. I prefer to start with just 1–2 ingredients to serve a baby to keep it simple and add more later.
05. I prefer to toast the bread slices to make them easier for the baby to handle. Soft bread tends to stick to the roof of the mouth. After toasting, I spread avocado on the bread and cut it into strips for younger babies or squares for older ones who have developed the pincer grasp.
📖 Substitutions & Variations
- Instead of lime juice, you could use lemon juice.
- For older kids and adults, you can add a pinch of salt.
- Instead of a whole tomato, you could use 3-4 cherry tomatoes.
🍽 Serving suggestions
We love having avocado toast for breakfast with some fruits on the side or an egg for extra protein and iron. For young babies that are still figuring out food and haven't developed the pincer grasp, cut the avocado toast into strips.
As they get older and it's easier for them to handle smaller bits of food, you could cut it into squares and they can pick it up with their hands or with a fork to master more skills.
🧰 Storage
Mashed avocado is best enjoyed when freshly made. The longer it stays out, the darker it will get. If you have leftovers, I recommend adding a squeeze of lemon or lime juice as the acidity slows down the oxidation and putting a cling film attached to the surface to minimize air exposure.
❓ FAQ
Yes, avocado on toast is a healthy and nutrient-rich finger food option for babies. Make sure you cut it into strips for babies between 6–9 months, and for older babies you could cut it into big squares.
